How to Make Patterns for Investment Casting?
Investment casting is also known as lost wax casting. This type of casting process is used for creating metal parts from various metal and alloy products. The first step in this process is to make a pattern similar to the completed cast part. This pattern is called as sacrificial pattern as it is made from wax and gets melted during the process. The pattern is specifically made by passing the wax into the metal wax injection die. After the pattern is made, it will be dipped in the ceramic slurry that is encased with sand stucco. This step will be repeated many times till the required thickness is reached. The thickness of the pattern depends on the features of the completed product and the raw materials that are used for making the final item. There are different types of industrial waxes that can be used for making investment casting molds.
